Just a day or so ago LeBron inquired about playing in the NFL via Twitter. Now it appears he may have some suitors. Take a guess…
If you guessed Pete Carroll, you’re correct. Carroll, a master recruiter during his time at USC, struck early trying to court the man-beast known as LeBron James. Is this really a surprise, though? Playful or not, Carroll had brought in top ranked recruiting classes more than once and was the first NCAA football coach with a Facebook page. I’m sure he would not mind bolstering the 2-5 Seattle Seahawks’ 17th ranked pass game.
The following conversation took place between the two tweeple:
@PeteCarroll: hey @KingJames are you aware of what the League’s rookie minimum is?
@KingJames: yeah more than what I’m making now Coach
@PeteCarroll: I kinda think of you as a touchdown maker but is it true you think of yourself as a pass rusher?
@KingJames: TD maker for sure!
@PeteCarroll: @KingJames I like it! maybe you should head over to #TheU & I’ll set up a little workout for you to catch a few balls… just ask for BC
Carroll didn’t stop there, however, tweeting a picture of a LeBron James Seahawks jersey.
Now let’s be realistic, the minute teams begin to think LeBron may be serious about playing in the NFL, I’m sure he’ll get red-carpet treatment on par of what was expected last summer. I certainly hope we don’t have to bare witness to “The Decision Pt. II.” Either way, making the transition between professional football and professional basketball won’t be easy. Sure, LeBron is a world-class athlete and would pose a ridiculous advantage at any position he played (imagine jumpballs against Nate Robinson sized corners) but he’d also have a bounty on his head from players who don’t think he’s NFL material.
For now, LeBron, you should stick to trying to help work out a labor deal in the NBA.
